Second session of Joint Commission between Azerbaijan and Iraq held

The second session of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq was held in Baku today.

 

A delegation headed by Co-chairman of the Joint Commission from the Republic of Iraq, Minister of Communications Arkan Al-Shaibani has arrived in our country to attend the session.

 

Welcoming the Iraqi guests, Co-chairman of the Commission from the Republic of Azerbaijan, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Nabiyev said that Azerbaijan and Iraq are friendly countries with close historical, religious and cultural ties. It was noted that next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq.

 

Minister Rashad Nabiyev informed the Iraqi delegation about the restoration  and reconstruction work carried out in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from the occupation of Armenia as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War. Satisfaction was also expressed with the sending of congratulatory letters to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the leadership of the Iraqi Parliament and MPs after the war.

 

Then Rashad Nabiyev noted the work done and planned in Azerbaijan in the field of transport, communications and digital transformation, as well as the macroeconomic indicators of our country.

 

At the meeting, it was  noted that there is a strong potential to increase trade turnover between the two countries, and the sides also exchanged views on the opportunities for cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, mutual investment, education, culture and tourism.

 

At the end of the meeting, the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq signed the minutes of the second session of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation.

 

It should be noted that the Joint Commission was established in accordance with the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation” signed on November 10, 2010 in Baku. The first session of the Commission took place on December 4, 2013 in Baku.
